- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9 inch baking dish with 1 oz of butter.
- Melt 2 oz of butter in a skillet over medium heat, add the cabbage, and sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the boiled potatoes, mashed turnips, sautéed cabbage, 1 oz of butter, kosher salt, and black pepper; mix well.
- Spread the mixture into the baking dish and top with grated cheddar cheese.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes until the cheese is browned.
- Let the casserole rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
