  • 3 medium Russet Potatoes boiled and mashed
  • 2 medium Turnips boiled and mashed
  • 3 oz Unsalted Butter divided
  • 1/2 head Green Cabbage thinly sliced
Topping
  • 1 oz Sharp Cheddar Cheese grated
Seasoning
  • to taste Kosher Salt
  • to taste Black Pepper fresh-ground

Method
 

Directions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9 inch baking dish with 1 oz of butter.
  2. Melt 2 oz of butter in a skillet over medium heat, add the cabbage, and sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the boiled potatoes, mashed turnips, sautéed cabbage, 1 oz of butter, kosher salt, and black pepper; mix well.
  4. Spread the mixture into the baking dish and top with grated cheddar cheese.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes until the cheese is browned.
  6. Let the casserole rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
