Step-by-Step Instructions for Mushroom Tart
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Gather your ingredients and prep your workspace.
  2. Melt a tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add finely chopped shallots and dried thyme, cooking for about 5 minutes until soft.
  3. In a separate skillet, add oil over high heat. When hot, add chopped mushrooms and sauté for 6-8 minutes until browned. Add balsamic vinegar and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  4. Mix the sautéed mushrooms with the shallots and garlic in a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper, then let cool for 5 minutes.
  5. Roll out the chilled puff pastry and score a 1-inch border around the edge. Prick the center to prevent puffing during baking.
  6. Sprinkle shredded Gruyère over the puff pastry, then spoon the cooled mushroom filling on top evenly.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until the edges are golden brown and the pastry has risen.
  8. Remove from the oven, let cool for 5 minutes, then cut into squares or wedges for serving.
