Method
 

Preparation
  1. Activate Yeast: Sprinkle active dry yeast over lukewarm water. Stir and let sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Whisk until well combined.
  3. Form Dough: Pour yeast mixture into dry ingredients, add melted butter, and mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead Dough: Knead on floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Let rise in a greased bowl for 1-2 hours.
  5. Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 450˚F and prepare a baking sheet.
  6. Shape Dough: Punch down the risen dough, divide into 6 pieces, and shape into ovals. Let rest for 30 minutes.
  7. Prepare Boil: Boil water in a pot, stir in baking soda.
  8. Boil Loaves: Boil each loaf for 30 seconds on each side, then transfer back to the baking sheet.
  9. Apply Egg Wash: Brush loaves with egg wash, sprinkle with salt, and make slashes.
  10. Bake: Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and hollow when tapped.
