Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F (95°C). In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons of instant dry yeast, and 1 teaspoon of fine salt. In a separate microwave-safe bowl, combine 1 cup of whole milk, 1/4 cup of unsalted butter, and 1/4 cup of granulated sugar. Heat for about 1 minute until warm. Pour the warm mixture into the dry ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  2. Add 1 large egg to the dough and mix until a sticky ball forms. Gradually incorporate more flour, around 1/4 cup at a time, until the dough is tacky but no longer sticky. Knead the dough lightly in the bowl for about 2-3 minutes, then cover with a clean dish towel or plastic wrap. Allow it to rest in a warm place for 10-20 minutes, or until slightly puffed.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together 1/4 cup of softened butter, 1/2 cup of packed light brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Stir until a smooth, paste-like consistency is achieved.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle approximately 18'x12'. Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the surface, leaving a small border around the edges. Using a sharp knife or a pastry cutter, slice the dough into 9 strips, each about 2 inches wide.
  5. Carefully place the cut strips of dough into an 8'x8' baking pan, arranging them snugly. Cover the pan with foil and place it in the warm oven for about 30 minutes, allowing the rolls to rise.
  6. Once proofed, remove the pan from the oven and preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cinnamon rolls for 26-30 minutes until they are golden brown on top.
  7. While the rolls are baking, prepare the cream cheese frosting. In a mixing bowl, beat together 4 ounces of full-fat cream cheese, 1/4 cup of softened butter, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Gradually add in 1 cup of powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream, mixing until the frosting is smooth and creamy.
  8. Once the cinnamon rolls have cooled for about 10 minutes, spread the cream cheese frosting generously over the warm rolls.
