Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 1/4 cup sugar Consider using coconut sugar for a twist.
  • 2 teaspoons fresh yeast Ensure it's fresh and within expiration for optimal rise.
  • 1 cup lukewarm milk Activates the yeast.
  • 2 large eggs Substitute with applesauce for a vegan option.
For the Filling
  • 1 cup whipping cream Offers a rich and smooth filling.
  • powdered sugar For dusting.

Equipment

  • Large Bowl
  • donut cutter
  • Slotted spoon
  • Deep pan
  • wire rack
  • piping bag

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup of sugar, and 2 teaspoons of fresh yeast. Gently warm 1 cup of milk until lukewarm, then pour it into the flour mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  2. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rest in a warm area for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  4. Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release the air. Roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick. Use a donut cutter to shape your donuts.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Carefully add a few donuts at a time and fry each side for about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Allow the fried donuts to cool completely on a wire rack.
  7. Whip 1 cup of cream until soft peaks form. Use a piping bag to fill each cooled donut with the whipped cream.
  8. Dust the filled donuts lightly with powdered sugar just before serving.
