  • 1 box Cake Mix Any yellow cake mix works if almond isn't available.
  • 1 tablespoon Almond Extract Substitute with lemon or orange extract for a twist.
  • 4 Egg Whites Ensure they are at room temperature for best results.
  • 1 cup Vegetable Oil Refined coconut oil can be used.
  • 1 cup Milk Buttermilk can be swapped in for extra richness.
For the Frosting
  • 1 cup Butter Ensure it’s softened to room temperature.
  • 1 cup Flour All-purpose flour gives the best texture.
  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar Sifted for a smooth finish is recommended.

Method
 

Cake Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, vegetable oil, water, egg whites, and almond extract. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
  3. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
  4. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
Frosting Preparation
  1. For the frosting, whisk together flour and milk in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened.
  2. Let the mixture cool completely, then beat it together with softened butter and powdered sugar until fluffy.
Frost the Cake
  1. Once the cake layers are cooled, frost the top of one layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
  2. Chill the cake for about 15-30 minutes before serving for a set frosting.
