Cake Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, vegetable oil, water, egg whites, and almond extract. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
Frosting Preparation
- For the frosting, whisk together flour and milk in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened.
- Let the mixture cool completely, then beat it together with softened butter and powdered sugar until fluffy.
Frost the Cake
- Once the cake layers are cooled, frost the top of one layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
- Chill the cake for about 15-30 minutes before serving for a set frosting.
